So Much to Catch Up On

Wowza! It is hard to believe that we are almost at the end of February 2021 already. It feels like just yesterday I wrote my last blog post.

No matter where we were or what we were doing, we will always remember 2020 as the year of the pandemic. I will not bore you with the details, but, it was quite the year. From working with new clients, to transitioning to fully online courses, then hybrid courses with very weird schedules, to actually having COVID. As bad as I felt, I was glad for the work. Classes continued and I got my grading completed on time, I was part of a review team to certify a public relations curriculum at a school in California, and took classes through the Association of Colleges and University Educators (ACUE) to become certified as an effective online educator. And, I became an Adobe Creative Educator. Typically, I teach my students about Adobe Photoshop and Adobe InDesign. Now, I have added Adobe Spark and Adobe Rush to my PR bag of tricks. Although I majored in graphic design (and journalism) in college, we did not have the tools available today.

Needless to say, it was quite the year. Spring semester is going well and I will be completing my ACUE courses in May 2021. On the creative side, I have been sharing and learning as I add visual components to my courses and teach my PR students the importance of visual storytelling. Adobe issued a creative challenge this month to learn how to use Adobe Rush. So, while I was waiting for a new furnace to be installed, I watched video lessons, and created my own. And, as a I record video lessons for my students, I have even started my own YouTube channel. Never, in my wildest dreams did I think I would have a YouTube channel. It is the best way to share video in our learning management system, and here on my blog (even if no one reads it.)

As my students learn and discover new things, so do I. This week the students working for our student-run PR firm, The Barnett Agency, discovered some tricks using MailChimp for email blasts. More on The Barnett Agency in another post to follow. There is too much news for one blog post.

The furnace installers have been working hard since 8 am. I am impressed with the dedication. As it approaches late afternoon, I am hopeful that I will hear the furnace turn on soon. If you are in St. Louis and need heat, consider Cisco Heating and Air Conditioning.

Stay safe and warm until next time.
